Cinemo To Support Renesas R-Car SoC With Its Unified Media Player
Collaboration will deliver a robust, automotive-grade and feature rich multimedia experience for in-vehicle infotainment systems powered by Renesas R-Car
Karlsruhe, Germany (August 7th, 2012) — Cinemo, developers of performance enhanced embedded multimedia technologies for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), have today announced a collaboration with Renesas Electronics Corporation to offer support for their R-Car systems-on-chip (SoC).
Cinemo’s Unified Media Player, powered by Cinemo Media Engine™ and featuring Cinemo Distributed Playback™, Cinemo Streaming Engine™ and Cinemo Media Management Engine™, supports the Renesas R-Car Series products and enables a highly optimized, robust, automotive grade, and feature rich multimedia experience. R-Car series are SoC’s developed by Renesas and its subsidiary, Renesas Mobile Corporation, for automotive infotainment systems. The R-Car SoC’s come with integrated audio and video hardware accelerator IP offering highest performance and lowest power consumption. R-Car series also aim to fulfill future automotive requirements towards green cars.
Cinemo Distributed Playback™ (patent pending), one of the most preferred features by Tier Ones and Car OEMs, closes the gap between Automotive and mobile and handheld devices by providing synchronous audio and video playback through the connected devices. Its future-proof architecture enables software-based Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) on Head Units, such as those powered by Renesas R-Car, with an easy extension of the RSE experience through apps on Android, iOS, and Windows-based mobile and handheld devices. Additionally, combined with Cinemo’s Distributed Media Management™ feature, it will be possible to instantly access and browse the multimedia content stored on all devices connected to the network as though it were a single device.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Renesas to offer Tier Ones and Car OEMs a seamless media experience between in-vehicle entertainment and handheld devices,” said Jim Corbett, executive vice president, Cinemo GmbH. “Cinemo looks forward to providing the next generation of state-of-the-art solutions with Renesas.”
“Cinemo is well established in the automotive industry and offers Renesas the highest quality media player for R-Car based infotainment systems,” said Masayasu Yoshida, senior manager of automotive electronics information systems marketing department, Renesas Electronics Corporation. “Tier Ones and Car OEMs can expect ease of use and a feature rich multimedia experience in their vehicles.”
