Cinemo Raises the Bar with High Performance Blu-ray Disc Playback on Texas Instruments ARM® Cortex™-A15 Platforms

The introduction by Cinemo of automotive grade embedded multimedia player for Blu-ray Profile 2.0 on Texas Instruments OMAP™ 5 and DRA74x ‘Jacinto 6’ platforms is set to herald a new dimension in the infotainment experience

Karlsruhe, Germany, January 6th 2014 — Cinemo, developers of high performance embedded multimedia technologies for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), is announcing automotive grade embedded multimedia player for Blu-ray Profile 2.0 on both Texas Instruments’ (TI) OMAP 5 and ‘Jacinto 6’ platforms.

Including Premium 7.1 channel audio, Digital Right Management (AACS and BD+), BD-Live and BD-J, along with future integration of the Blu-ray Profile 5.0 (3D Blu-ray) and support for current TI platforms, Cinemo’s Blu-ray Profile 2.0 playback will be ideally positioned for any infotainment setting demanding optimum performance and quality.

Cinemo takes full advantage of TI’s OMAP 5 and ‘Jacinto 6’ architecture by offloading the video decoding tasks to the TI IVA-HD video accelerator, while rendering is also optimized by using multi-core 3D graphics accelerator hardware built-in in the OMAP 5 and ‘Jacinto 6’. This enables full commercial Blu-ray playback with minimal CPU load and power consumption.

Cinemo’s embedded multimedia technology is highly advanced, robust, multi-platform, and designed for the stringent specification requirements of automotive. The addition of Blu-ray Profile 2.0 on TI’s OMAP5 and ‘Jacinto 6’ further enriches Cinemo’s acceptance as an integral part of any in-car entertainment system.

The first mass production recipients of Cinemo’s Blu-ray solution on the TI platform will be a major worldwide automotive maker with SOP in 2015.

“We are very happy to be able to extend our support for TI SoCs on OMAP 5, ‘Jacinto 6’ and beyond” says Jim Corbett, Co-founder and EVP of Cinemo. “The addition of Blu-ray Profile 2.0 to an already rich and full-featured embedded multimedia player and media management, will ensure that the challenge of Blu-ray disc in automotive can be met”.

“Cinemo have been providing leading solutions for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) multimedia, and we are delighted that the extended performance of the OMAP 5 and ‘Jacinto 6’ architecture can be leveraged for Cinemo’s Blu-ray Profile 2.0 integration,” said Matt Watson, product line manager, automotive infotainment processor, Texas Instruments.
