Cinemo Announces Support For MeeGo

World-class multimedia with powerful distributed playback now available for MeeGo

August 02, 2010, Karlsruhe, Germany – Cinemo, developers of performance enhanced embedded multimedia technologies for in-vehicle infotainment, consumer electronics, and industrial embedded computing, have announced full implementation of its solutions for the MeeGo open source Linux platform.

Cinemo is a high efficient embedded multimedia playback stack that includes all common disc, audio, video, and streaming formats. Performance-critical components are hand optimized to ensure the fastest and most reliable playback experience whilst its modular software architecture allows customized solutions on multiple platforms, updating single components as well as extending the feature set by adding individual elements for new formats, codec’s, post-processing features or target platforms. With simultaneous playback of multiple HD streams in all formats and distributed playback to multiple clients, Cinemo offers outstanding multimedia performance with ultra low power consumption.

Cinemo’s distributed playback technology is hardware-agnostic, working over a wide range of networking implementations. Supporting virtually an unlimited number of clients, it is coupled with very advanced latency-compensation technology, enabling perfect lip-sync between playback units. It is a software-only solution, not requiring any specific piece of hardware.

MeeGo is an open source software platform for the next-generation of computing devices. It combines Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo projects into one Linux-based platform. MeeGo integrates the experience and skills of two significant development ecosystems, versed in communications and computing technologies.

“Cinemo is recognized for its exceptional performance in embedded multimedia playback,” said Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. “Cinemo’s use of MeeGo and its contributions to the project will be highly valued as MeeGo continues to make significant advancements in the in-vehicle infotainment, consumer electronics and embedded computing markets.”

“Built on an environment of ease of use, power, and flexibility, MeeGo’s constantly evolving eco-system offers a wealth of possibilities for hardware and software makers alike” said Jim Corbett, Executive Vice President from Cinemo. “We are very confident therefore that Cinemo will bring a new dimension in state-of-the-art multimedia for the MeeGo platform”.
